The average employee contribution toward premiums for family coverage rose 14% in 2010 to nearly $4,000, according to the Kaiser Family Foundation and the Health Research and Educational Trust in a report released September 2. Contributions for single coverage grew 15%. However, the total premium cost – that split by employer and employee – rose 3% for families and 5% for single employees. Those companies that still offer benefits pay, on the average, 70% of the total premium for their employees, but this year passed on most of the increases to employees, something researchers had not seen before. See the full report, abstracts, charts and more at http://ehbs.kff.org/.
